Privacy notice
This explains what we do with your information when you use the My Community app. If you are a business registering a listing, the notice that applies to you is here instead.
Who holds your details
My Community App Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17360630, ICO registration ZC224265). Registered office: Hardcastle Burton, Market Hill, Royston, SG8 9JN, United Kingdom.
We are the “data controller” — the people answerable for what happens to your information. Contact us at hello@mycommunityapp.co.uk.
What we collect, and why
- Your name, email address and phone number, from when you register. We need these to create and run your account and to contact you about it.
- How you signed in. If you use Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google, we receive an identifier from them and the email address they release to us. Apple may give you the option of a private relay address, in which case that is what we hold — we never see your real one.
- What you do in the app — the events you save, the businesses you favourite, reviews you write, vouchers you redeem, loyalty stamps you collect and scores in the games. This is what makes those features work.
- A notification token for your device, if and only if you allow notifications. It identifies the phone, not you, and it is how a notification reaches the right handset.
- The area you have chosen, so the app shows you local content.
Counts of business page views
We count how many times each business page is opened, and how many times its call, email, website and social media buttons are tapped, so we can tell a business how much interest its listing is getting. These are daily totals for each business and nothing else. We do not record who looked at what or who contacted whom, and nobody using the app is identified by these figures — not to us, and not to the business.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your data, to anyone, ever.
- We do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites, and the app contains no advertising trackers.
- We do not collect your location. The app does not ask for it and does not use it.
- We do not build advertising profiles or sell access to you as an audience.
What allows us to do this
The law wants us to name a “lawful basis”. For running your account and the features you use, it is performing our agreement with you. For notifications it is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by turning them off — the app carries on working without them. For keeping the directory accurate and dealing with misuse, it is our legitimate interests in running the service.
Who else sees it
Only service providers who help us run the app, under contract and on our instructions — our database and authentication provider, our email provider, our app infrastructure and notification delivery, and Apple or Google where you chose to sign in with them. Some of these are outside the UK, and where they are we rely on the transfer safeguards the law provides. We also share information where the law requires it.
Anything you post publicly — a review, for instance — is visible to other people using the app. That is what posting it does.
How long we keep it
For as long as you have an account. When you delete your account we delete it, and the data attached to it goes with it. Reviews you have written are detached from you rather than removed, so that the ratings shown on a business page do not silently change — if you want them taken down as well, delete them before you delete your account, or ask us and we will do it.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account from inside the app, without asking us: Profile → Delete account. It is permanent and it cannot be undone. If you would rather we did it, email hello@mycommunityapp.co.uk.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to what we are doing with it. Email hello@mycommunityapp.co.uk and we will respond within one month.
Children
The app is not intended for young children. If you believe a child has given us their details, tell us and we will remove them.
If you are not happy
Tell us first and we will try to put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK regulator, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. You do not have to speak to us before you go to them.
